The 105th consecutive all-class reunion of the Powell High School Alumni Association will go ahead as scheduled on the weekend of July 10-11 for all who are comfortable in gathering in the year of COVID-19.
Gerry Wilkins of Billings, a member of the alumni planning committee, said the annual reunion is going forward, though the group understands and accepts that probably not as many people will participate as in the past.
“Everyone has to make a conscious decision to do what they feel comfortable with,” he said. “Some classes have delayed events, some are full steam ahead.”
The PHS Class of 1990, for instance, has already announced that its 30th class reunion will be delayed until next year.
“We certainly respect the thoughts and feelings of those that will not be coming,” Wilkins added. “If we have to follow
certain guidelines during certain events, please respect those requirements, and please don’t shoot the messengers, as we are trying to make lemonade out of a lemon.”
On the schedule for alumni weekend are the PHS golf tournament Friday morning, July 10 and individual class reunion activities that evening. There’s also going to be a time set for “bugging Main” sometime Friday evening.
On Saturday, July 11, an informal, “unhosted” get-together is planned in Washington Park, followed by a Saturday night evening at the fairgrounds with DJ music from 6 to 10 p.m. Beer will be available, but no food.
