Hosting a fast and up-tempo opponent on Friday night the Powell High School football team fell for a third straight contest, as the Panthers were shut out by visiting Jackson 48-0.

Back home after a one-game road trip the Panthers (3-4 overall, 0-3 3A West) welcomed in the Broncs (6-1 overall, 2-1 3A West).
Jackson got on the board on its first drive, capping off the drive with a 28-yard touchdown pass.
After Powell’s first drive resulted in a punt the Panthers appeared to stop the Broncs deep in their territory and force a punt, but a fake kept that drive going midway through the quarter giving Jackson a fresh set of downs.
The Broncs added another touchdown with 1:46 left in the first quarter, this time on a 2-yard run to make it 14-0.
Powell had a strong drive going early in the second quarter, but the Broncs recovered a Panther fumble with 8:12 remaining to get the ball back.
“We didn’t do ourselves any favors. Offensively, we would pick up 10-12 yards, and then we would fumble … At times both offensively and defensively we look really good. Then other times we’re just our own worst enemy,” coach Chase Kistler said. “We had six fumbles, but we only lost two. The problem is, even those other four, it might be in the backfield or the ball is bouncing 5 yards backwards.”
The Panthers forced a punt, but a pick-6 on the next drive gave the Broncs a 21-0 advantage.
Both teams had turnovers on downs late in the half, and Powell had a chance to score just before the half after a Broc Frank interception, as his return set them up deep in Jackson territory.
Powell could not find the end zone, and went into the half trailing 21-0.
The Panther offense was unable to find a groove early in the second half, and Jackson added another touchdown on its first drive, scoring from 18 yards out to make it 28-0 with 7:55 left in the third.
Jackson made it 35-0 on a 66-yard touchdown run with 2:01 left in the third, and added two more runs early in the fourth quarter from 31 and 8 yards out to make it 48-0 after a botched extra point on the final attempt.
The Panthers were outgained in the game 405-142, despite 115 yards on the ground from Lincoln Crawford.
Trevin Morton led the Panthers defensively with nine tackles and had the lone tackle for loss. Breckyn Kobbe, Russell Goolsbey and Crawford each had a pass deflection while Frank had the only interception.
“It’s the mistakes. It’s hard to know (what causes them). We watch film and stuff, and you’re gonna make mistakes,” Kistler said. “There is never a perfect game, but we have just got to clean some stuff up. Even the ones where we rolled out and the guy’s open and we underthrow it or overthrow it, that’s just a learning thing for a quarterback coming in midseason. [Karcher Foley has] gotten a lot of reps and he’s doing a great job. We’re just kind of out of tune with all the shuffling of positions I think.”
RIVALRY GAME
The Panthers now head out this week for a rivalry game against another set of Broncs, this time their Park County rivals from Cody (5-1 overall, 2-1 3A West) for the Big Horn Brawl at 7 p.m. on Friday.
“We have got to get healthy,” Kistler said. “The good thing is we just saw what high tempo is. So it’s going to be back-to-back … Cody is high tempo with a heavy run. I know that [Cache] McFadden, he’s a great runner as a quarterback and this year he throws a pretty good ball. For us, we’ve again got to find fixes for ourselves so that we can get after them.”
