PHS alumni gathering this weekend for 96th time

Posted

Powell High School alumni will return to Powell once again for the 96th annual PHS Alumni Weekend.

Individual classes will get together Friday for their reunions, and all-class events are scheduled for Saturday.

Saturday kicks off with the Alumni Fun Run at 7 a.m., beginning at the corner of Clark and First streets. Participants may register in advance at the Powell Recreation Office or prior to run at 6:30 a.m.

At 8 a.m., breakfast will be served on the lawn at the Powell Valley Chamber of Commerce for all those attending the reunion.

The annual golf tournament opens with a shotgun start at 10 a.m. at the Powell Golf Club. Registration is from 9-9:30 a.m.

The annual Alumni Dinner takes place at The Commons in downtown Powell. Tickets, which must be purchased by today (Tuesday, June 21) are $25. The doors will open at 5:30 p.m., and dinner will be served at 6:30. Janet Bovee Burgess, Class of 1950, will bring the invocation, and Carl Beavers, Class of 1960, will serve as Master of Ceremonies.

A new feature of the banquet this year will be the presentation of a Distinguished Alumni Award by the Powell Schools Foundation.

Saturday’s activities will conclude with alumni dances from 8:30 p.m. until midnight. The Randy Keller Band will play inside The Commons, and Hurricane Mesa will provide music outside. The public is welcome with admission of $3 per person or $5 for a couple.

A full bar will be available in The Commons and a beer garden will be open at Plaza Diane.
