“Remember way back when we all got to go to the park for a picnic the last day or so of the school year?” he asks.
The reunion weekend offers a chance to do it all over again.
The Saturday, July 1 full day of events includes “lunch in the park” for all takers. From noon-2 p.m. that day, the PHS classes of 1968 and 1970 are hosting a BYOE (bring your own everything) get-together in the pavilion at Washington Park. It’s open to everyone, Wilkins urges.
History revisited
Alumni weekend rolls outs on Friday, June 30 with flashback events at the Heart Mountain Interpretive Center and the Homesteader Museum. A group tour of the interpretive center is organized at 9:45 a.m. for admission of $7 each. Homesteader Museum hosts an open house from 2-4 p.m. that day to showcase its collection of Powell area historical artifacts.
Individual reunion classes stage their own class gatherings in variety of venues Friday night, June 30.
End to end activities
The Saturday, July 1 program starts early and brims with activities. A 5K run sponsored by the PHS volleyball team gets the day started at 7 a.m. The reunion breakfast for all returnees, sponsored by the Powell Rotary Club, takes place at the American Legion Hall from 8 to 10 a.m.
The Friends of the Library Poker Walk is back. It takes place from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. in downtown Powell. The NWC Car Show on campus also returns from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
Of course, there’s reunion golf. The Panther Open moves to a Saturday spot on the reunion calendar with tee off at 10 a.m.
After a Saturday repeat of the Homesteader Museum open house from 2-4 p.m., cornhole moves front and center. The third annual PHS reunion cornhole tournament begins at 5 p.m. at the fairgrounds to help usher in the reunion evening events at the fairgrounds — food, beverages and music from 5-10 p.m.
Sunday sign-off
Reunion weekend actually has a Sunday parting event on July 2. Friends Forever, a duo of Michael and Donna Coy, will offer a musical wrap on the weekend from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. on Sunday at Gestalt Studios.
