Bicyclists, motorcyclists ride to raise money for families dealing with cancer
Bicyclists are encouraged to begin training now for the second PEAKS to CONGA Bike Ride on Saturday, July 14.
Bicyclists will ride from Cody (or they are welcome to join in anywhere along the way) to Shell, to raise money for the National Breast Cancer Foundation and PEAKS (People Everywhere Are Kind and Sharing).
PEAKS is a local volunteer organization established in 1988 that raises money for families dealing with cancer in Montana and the Big Horn Basin.
Many people facing the challenge of cancer do not have the financial resources to pay for related costs during daily treatment such as lodging, transportation, food and other living expenses. Funds raised by PEAKS go specifically to those in need.
This is the fifth year for the CONGA ride and the meeting place will be Shell, where there will be a three-day rally starting on July 12. CONGA was started by Flo Fuhr, who lost her sister to breast cancer. Fuhr and her group rode through Shell for the first time three years ago and were treated so well that they decided to come back.
“They put us up, raised $400 and washed our bikes.” said Fuhr. Each year since then, the donations have increased by thousands.
CONGA’s motto is “Kick Cancer to the Curb!”
Bicyclists will join the CONGA for the rally in Shell, which features fundraising auctions, raffles, barbecues, music, dancing and fun. The bicyclists raised approximately $3,500 last year.
