The Panther wrestling squad took a 30-0 lead on the Cody Broncs through the smaller weights on Tuesday night, then hung on to win 48-32.

To open the dual, the Powell High School team was gifted with six freebie points when no Bronc came out to meet Powell’s Colt Nicholson at 106 pounds.

Panthers Logan Werner and Emma Karhu then both took down and immediately pinned their Broncs in succession at 113 and 120. Werner stuck his guy in 38 seconds and Karhu needed only seven seconds more.

Trevor Feller (3:18) and Michael Maddox (1:29) kept the run of victories by fall going before Cody finally struck back. Lane Fitzgerald blanked Panther Corey Linebaugh 13-0.

Brady Deming of the Broncs took a 16-8 decision from Riley Bennett at 145 and Jackson Wood pinned Colby Bennett in 3:47 to make the scoreboard read 30-14 Panthers.

Seth Horton put a stop to the Broncs’ momentum with a 1:28 pin at 160, but Cody answered at 170 with a 1:27 win by fall over Panther Lannon Brazelton by Grayson Beaudrie.

Matt Seckman answered for Powell at 182 with a third-period pin in 4:30 and, with the Panthers open at 195, the match score went to 42-26.

The last two matches were a push when Panther Carson Olsen (at 220 pounds) and Bronc heavyweight Jeff Williams both won by pin.

The PHS grapplers will return to the mat on Friday night in Cody, for a 5 p.m. quadrangular.
