Chance to move up this week
The Powell High School boys’ soccer team picked up a single fourth-place vote in this week’s Wyopreps 3A soccer poll. Head coach Travis Rapp’s team will have the opportunity to change that this week.
Buffalo, a 2-0 winner over Powell last week, remains atop the 3A boys soccer poll after receiving four of a possible six first-place votes. Jackson, recipient of the other two first-place votes, sits in second place. All six of the ballots submitted had the Bison and the Broncs as the top two teams in the state.
Below the top two, voters weren’t nearly as clear on the state’s soccer hierarchy. Cody received the most consideration on the ballots and will spend this week as No. 3. Worland and Star Valley are tied at No. 4.
Powell High School travels to No. 4 Worland today (Thursday). The Panthers host No. 3 Cody on Saturday as the three Northwest quadrant teams look to sort out an early-season order this week.
Also receiving votes in the boys’ poll was Lander, which appeared on three of the six ballots.
On the girls’ side, Cody was a unanimous choice as the state’s No. 1 team. Lander was listed as second on five of the six ballots and was a nearly consensus choice as the No. 2 team in the state.
Star Valley bumps up to No. 3 this week after being named on five of the state’s six ballots. Like the boys’ poll, the girls’ poll also features a tie at No. 4 as Jackson and Buffalo share that spot in this week’s rankings.
Torrington and Worland also received votes in this week’s poll. Pinedale, part of a tie for fourth place last week, failed to pick up a vote this time around.
