Lady panthers finish as runner-up at home meet

The Powell Panthers endured blustery conditions to christen the track at the new Panther Stadium on Saturday. The Panther boys finished atop the eight-school field while Powell’s girls were second to defending state champion Cody.

The Panthers added two additional qualifiers for next month’s state meet. KaDee Harrison took advantage of a bit of a tail wind to cruise to first-place honors in the 100 meters. On the boys’ side, Hayden Cragoe placed second in the 110-meter hurdles behind older brother Josh Cragoe, but still managed to surpass the automatic qualifying standard in the event.

Both will have their names in the 3A championship field next month in Casper.

Several other members of the Panthers’ teams improved upon previous season-best marks. Included in that list were Josh Cragoe’s 110-meter hurdle time, Vince Sleep’s discus performance and the times of the Powell boys’ 4x100 and 4x400 relay teams.

“Considering the number of meets that got canceled or shut down part way through around the state, our weather was great,” Panther coach Scott Smith said of the conditions for the first meet at the new Panther Stadium.

The Panthers return to track action this Saturday in Lovell. The meet will be Powell’s last before the field for the Wyoming Track Classic is finalized.
