Oscar Edward Hillman

Oscar Edward Hillman, 87, died Thursday, Aug. 1, at his home on Sylvan Court in Powell.

He was born Sept. 19, 1914, on a farm near WaKeeney, Kan., where he grew up and attended Union School. He was the fourth of 10 children born to Louis and Malinda (Claycamp) Hillman.

He married Erma Rogers in Ellsworth, Kan., on Jan. 1, 1936. It was during the Depression and the terrible dust bowl days when they moved to Worland in 1936 where their two children, Gary and Karen, were born.

In 1945, they moved to Powell where he purchased the Case implement dealership and owned and operated as Hillman Implement until retirement in 1966.

He enjoyed golfing, boat fishing, dancing and traveling. The couple spent several winters in Apache Junction, Ariz.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church for more than 50 years, the BPOE Elks, Absaroka Masonic Lodge #47 and a past president of the Powell Country Club. He was also an original member of Allied Investments and TryCo Corporation.

Mr. Hillman served six years as a member of the Powell City Council.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Karen Benton, his parents, three brothers and three sisters.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Erma; son Gary (Linda) Hillman of Sheridan; two sisters, Laura Dixon of Ft. Collins, Colo., and Arlene Grecian of WaKeeney; a brother, Darrel Hillman of Weatherford, Texas; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Cremation has taken place and memorial services was at United Methodist Church Monday, Aug. 5 with Rev. Ron Kapalka presiding. Memorial may be made to the Methodist Church or the charity of the donor's choice.
