Two former Powell High School athletes competed for the University of Wyoming in the 2020 Mountain West Indoor Track and Field Championships.
The event took place last weekend at the Albuquerque Convention Center in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Anissa Warner, a UW senior, was part of a four-way deadlock at 15th place in the conference indoor high jump standings. She posted a meet mark of 5'2.5".
Julia Kay O’Neill, a sophomore at UW, ran one leg of the Cowgirls’ distance medley that posted an altitude-converted time of 11:52.84. The relay team placed eighth and earned a team point. Their clocking also ranks No. 5 all-time in UW indoor track history. All of the women’s distance medley relay top times have come in the last five years.
O’Neill’s fellow runners on the relay team were Kaylee Kearse, Sophia Cunningham and Katelyn Mitchem.
“We saw some places in both relays with good fight and competitiveness,” said UW distance coach Scott Dahlberg.
In her other event O’Neill ran 2:17.71 in her 800-meter run preliminary heat and did not qualify for the finals.
The Cowgirls finished ninth behind champion UNLV on the women’s side of the Mountain West team standings.
