DOUGLAS (WNE) — The state Division of Criminal Investigation has taken over the investigation into an officer involved shooting early Tuesday morning in which one person was injured.
A Douglas police officer who responded to a call regarding a domestic situation in the 700 block of Hamilton Street the night of Oct. 7 shot a suspect who displayed a firearm when police arrived, according to DPD.
Neither the name of the suspect nor that of the officer involved in the shooting was released as of Tuesday morning.
Douglas Police Chief Todd Byerly said the suspect is alive and was taken to Memorial Hospital of Converse County.
“During the incident, the suspect displayed a handgun . . . which the officers perceived as an immediate deadly threat. One officer discharged their firearm striking the suspect,” Byerly said in a release issued Tuesday morning.
All of the officers on scene are safe and unharmed, the chief said.
Byerly said the incident is currently under investigation by the Wyoming DCI, which is a standard procedure when an officer is involved in the shooting.
“The officer involved (in the shooting) has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation, as is standard protocol and in accordance with department policy,” he said.
