Northwest College is seeing more interest.
This year, college enrollment is up 6%, according to early numbers from President Lisa Watson at the September board meeting.
"We registered 50 more students recently," she said, "more stragglers."
That puts enrollment up 81 from last year and puts NWC in line with a national trend. Last fall’s final enrollment count was 1,389 students.
"That is the consensus I'm seeing around the nation, enrollment is up," she said. "Four year schools are already above prepandemic enrollment. Two years on the verge, still a little ways to go."
At least some of that increase is in new students living, and eating, on campus, as students living in campus housing and using campus meals plans have also risen.
"This is the second year our onsite meal plans and dining have gone up, which is great news," she said.
There are 347 students taking advantage of a meal plan and 342 students in the residence halls this fall.
Even the number of international students has been inching up and is now in triple digits, with many coming to play sports.
