A 19-year-old Powell man died early Saturday morning in a traffic crash north of Gillette.
The Campbell County Sheriff’s Office responded to an unknown problem shortly after 2 a.m. Saturday on North Highway 59 after an alert came through Apple Crash Detection, said Undersheriff Quentin Reynolds.
When deputies arrived, they found a 2008 GMC Acadia that had rolled over. The passenger, a 24-year-old man, had to be extricated from the vehicle and was taken to the hospital by EMS.
The 19-year-old, Brandon L. Cossitt of Powell, had been ejected from the car and was pronounced dead at the scene, Reynolds said.
Through investigation, deputies believe high speeds and alcohol were factors in the crash.
Campbell County Coroner Paul Wallem said Cossitt died from head and chest trauma suffered from being ejected from the vehicle.
Cossitt and his passenger were attending school in the area, Reynolds said. Deputies are working to complete a state crash report.
