Nina Jeanine Keever, 73, of Cody, Wyoming, passed away peacefully on July 4, 2026, at St. Vincent’s Hospital, surrounded by her loving family.

Nina was born on July 28, 1952, in Miles City, Montana, to Patty and Raymond Shuffield. Nina was blessed to grow up alongside a brother and sister who she always adored. It was clear from the beginning of her life that Nina loved people.

In her teenage years, she met the love of her life, Elwin Keever. Nina and Elwin enjoyed 59 years in love, and a joyful 55 years of marriage. Her beloved family has continued to expand throughout the years, and this made Nina happier than anything else.

She truly treasured the time she spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Nina lived her life with an open heart, and she brought a distinct spark of generosity and fun to most situations. Whether it was hide-and-seek or building fairy houses, Nina encouraged the kids to see the magic in life.

She loved Wyoming fiercely, a passion she passed down to younger generations during countless family camping trips. A true angler, she routinely out-fished everyone in the group, from her lawn chair or an ice-fishing hole. When it came to card games or dice, she rarely lost and engaged in a great deal of friendly trash talk. Nina was a native Wyoming resident who was dedicated to connecting with others. She was there for those around her, acting as everyone’s loudest cheerleader and a reliable anchor in times of need.

She is survived by her loving husband, Elwin, and their children Shauna Keever and Mandy (Adam) Coates; her grandchildren Jessie (Maryah) Sowerwine, Tucker Matthews, Ora and Adel Coates, as well as her brother Nicholas Shuffield and sister Nita Bjornestad, and many great-grandchildren.

Nina was preceded in death by her father, Raymond ‘Bud’ Shuffield, and her mother Patty (Menuey) Shuffield, along with many other deeply beloved family members and friends.

To honor Nina’s vibrant spirit, a Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, Aug. 15, at 1 p.m. at the Geysers on the Terrace, 525 W. Yellowstone Ave., Cody, WY 82414.

Memories and condolences can be shared on Nina’s memorial page at BallardFH.com.
