Leading up to the Park County Fair, many local residents have been busy crafting, quilting, baking, sewing, gardening and creating other entries for the annual fair.
The 2021 event will feature several new opportunities, including the Best Cinnamon Roll Contest, sponsored by King Arthur Baking.
Two new awards will recognize dedicated superintendents who have passed away. In honor of Open Class Agronomy Superintendent Joyce Johnston, a new award will be given for the largest sugar beet. In honor of Superintendent Judy Preator, a new Open Class Crafted Arts Best in Class Award was created.
In open class crafted arts, fishing lures were added as a new category, with eight different classes. Also new this year is a slime category, with four slime classes: Tie dye, glitter, galaxy and other.
Bath, body and beauty creations also were added as a new category this year. That includes sugar scrubs, soap, body scrub, bath bombs, bath salts and any other not listed.
This year’s fair also will feature the Best Pie of Park County Contest. Judging will take place at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 28, in Homesteader Hall.
Everlast Metal is sponsoring a Farm Junk Sculpture Contest, with prizes awarded for the champion and reserve champion.
A new opportunity for kids is the Agri-Entertainment Tent, located in the Kids’ Zone. There will be daily demonstrations and activities for the whole family.
Starting Wednesday, the Exhibit Hall will open to the public from 11 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. through Saturday, while the livestock barns will be open from noon to 10:30 p.m.
From Thursday through Saturday, product and craft vendors will be in Homesteader Hall from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.
