New commercial greenhouse business approved east of Powell

A new greenhouse business is coming to Powell.

On Tuesday, Park County commissioners approved a special use permit for commercial greenhouses to be built alongside a retail shop on Lane 9 east of Powell.

Applicant Della Sheridan wrote in a report to the county the business will specialize in annual, perennial flowers, garden fruits and vegetables, as well as trees and shrubs. A retail building will be open year round, offering rare and common house plants, soils, pots and plant accessories. Business hours will be 8 a.m.-6 p.m., seven days per week.

The business will include a 120-foot-by-75-foot greenhouse, a 130-foot-by-80-foot greenhouse and a 30-foot-by-30-foot office.

After a neighboring landowner complained at the planning and zoning commission meeting on it — the commissioners also recommended approval — Sheridan said the layout of the buildings, with the office between the greenhouses with their whirling fans and the closest neighboring residence, was done intentionally to minimize disruption.

“The greenhouse fans will be on the west side, with the office placed between the greenhouses and neighboring property as a sound buffer,” said county planner Jenny Cramer.

Sheridan also said in the report she would be placing clear signs to show where the designated parking area will be and will react quickly to move any customer who parks in front of a neighboring property.
