Murdoch’s Ranch & Home Supply is expanding its retail operations into Texas.
Through leases of existing buildings and new construction, the company says it plans to eventually open stores across the state, going as far south as the Mexican border.
In the immediate future, Murdoch’s says it will focus on Schertz, Temple, Killeen, College Station, Texas Hill Country, San Antonio, Austin and cities and towns in that general area.
“The opportunity for dozens of Murdoch’s stores in Texas is there,” said Rick Ungersma, Murdoch’s president and CEO. “This effort will be transformational for our company and this growth will offer opportunities for existing and new team members alike as we scale to become the Murdoch’s of the future.”
Ungersma added that the chain also plans to add new stores in Belgrade, Three Forks and Anaconda, Montana, plus two more in Fort Collins and Johnstown, Colorado.
Murdoch’s began in 1994 in Bozeman and now operates 34 stores in Wyoming, Montana, Colorado, Idaho and Nebraska plus a home office in Bozeman and two distribution centers — with another planned in Texas. Murdoch’s opened its Powell store in January 2019, when it purchased Linton’s Big R.
The company employs roughly 1,900 people.
