Movie theater reopens this weekend

After a more than two-month closure due to COVID-19, Vali Twin Cinema is reopening this weekend.

Beginning Friday night, the downtown Powell theater will show Despicable Me and Hacksaw Ridge. Since film studios have delayed releasing new movies amid the pandemic, theaters are currently unable to get new titles.

The downtown Powell movie theater will offer a discounted rate of $3 for all seats on Friday and Saturday nights, as well as Sunday and Saturday matinees. Despicable Me (rated PG) will be shown at 7:15 p.m. Friday and Saturday, with a 3:15 p.m. matinee Sunday. Hacksaw Ridge (rated R) will be shown at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday, with a 3 p.m. matinee Sunday.

For the health and safety of its customers and employees, Vali Twin Cinema temporarily closed on March 18. During the closure, the theater continued to sell popcorn and other foods and drinks from its concession stand, allowing a limited number of customers at a time.

The State of Wyoming required theaters and other public spaces to close from March 19 through May 14 and is currently requiring various safety precautions aimed at curbing the spread of the new coronavirus.
