The Park County Fair’s debut boxing grandstand event was met with resounding success as fighters battled the mud and each other for victory. The event, hosted by Powell-based 307 Boxing, saw fighters from around Wyoming and Montana gather to compete for spectators.
The Wednesday night event replaced last year's grandstand concert — the previous two years boxing had been a free event outside the grandstands, but this year a number of fans braved the heavy rains that bogged much of the event down in thick mud.
“The ringside seats and box seats were pretty close to sold out,” said 307 Boxing coach David Holland. “Our biggest event prior was close to 250 in attendance, and this had over 500.”
Holland himself was amongst the fighters, taking to the ring for the first time in 15 years in the first bout against Bryan Terry, also of 307 Boxing. The fight ended in a split decision vote by the judges, with the victory going to Terry.
“There is no better dude than Bryan getting his hand raised. He deserved it every bit.” Holland said. “From the crowd, we both feel like we put on a good show as the first fight of the night and hopefully showed other 40-year-olds that you can do anything, no matter your age if you believe.”
The event featured 10 bouts and concluded with a championship fight between Adrian Geller of 307 Boxing and Honor Senti of Warriors Boxing Gym in Gillette, with Geller coming out on top with the belt. This match marks the second title fight of the Big Horn Basin Brawlers Series following this April’s Spring Sting event.
Moving forward, Holland said that the club will be working on their yearly Greybull Boxing Camp and preparing for the fall season to kick off after Labor Day.
“It was great to see everyone support the event to continue to grow the sport of boxing,” he said.
