Dear editor,
We are writing to express our sadness that the most dedicated founder/volunteer chose to end her service at Moyer Animal Shelter after 28 years due to changes implemented by new management.
For nearly three decades Elfriede Milburn has devoted countless hours to caring for homeless and neglected animals, giving her time, energy, and compassion without expecting anything in return. Her unwavering commitment improved the lives of many animals and supported the shelter’s mission through good times and difficult ones alike.
While leadership changes are a normal part of any organization, it is troubling when those changes result in the loss of volunteers who have given so much of themselves to a cause. Longtime volunteers carry invaluable knowledge, experience, love and dedication that cannot be replaced.
This situation serves as a reminder that volunteers are not simply unpaid workers — they are partners in the mission. Organizations thrive when they value and respect the people who have helped build and sustain them over the years.
Twenty eight years of service is a remarkable contribution to the community and to the animals who benefited from her care.
Such dedication deserves recognition, appreciation, and respect.
Thanks Mom, you’re the best!
