All four teams place in top twoThe Powell Middle School eighth-grade boys' track team steamrolled the competition while the seventh grade boys and both girls' teams captured runner-up honors at the Powell Athletic Roundtable's middle school track invitational last Saturday. The Powell eighth-grade boys amassed 200 points to more than double up the score of second-place Lovell. Garrett Lynch set a new school record, winning the shot put with a toss of 44'1”. The heave surpassed the previous school mark of 44'0.75”, which had stood since 1997, when it was established by Ryan Teppert.

Logan Harsh (100), Jakob Bowers (400), Matt Abraham (800), Brendon Phister (pole vault) and Jakob Bowers (long jump and triple jump) also scored wins to help power the Cub boys. The 4x400 relay team of Abraham, Bowers, Phister and Logan Harsh also finished ahead of the competition in the 11-school meet.
For the seventh-grade boys, who trailed Cody 139-119 in the final standings, Ty Herd was a double winner, taking the title in both the pole vault and the long jump. Kalai Smith captured the title in the 200-meter hurdles.
The seventh-grade relay team of Ryan Ferro, Matt Sweet, Heston Swenson and Herd raced to victory in the 4x200 race.
On the girls' side of the ledger, Powell's seventh-grade team placed second to Worland as the final scoreboard showed the Cubs with 102 points, compared to 164.5 for Worland. Bailey Sanders (800), Jenni Ebersberger (200-meter hurdles) and Rachel Hanson (pole vault) all won individual events for Powell.
The 4x400 relay team of Carli Brown, Megan Wagner, Ebersberger and Sanders broke the five-minute barrier to win that event.
The eighth-grade girls, who placed a distant second to Cody, were led by Shawnea Harrington, who captured wins in both the shot put and the discus. KaDee Harrison was the only other event champion on the eighth-grade side, placing at the front of the pack in the 100 with a time of 14.13.
