(May 8, 1957- July 17, 2005) Memorial services are scheduled Thursday, Aug. 4 at 2 p.m. at the Union Presbyterian Church in Powell for Melanie Irene (Mefford) Burt, 48, of Billings, Mont., who died Sunday, July 17 following a motorcyle accident on the Old Hardin Road east of Billings. Interment will follow at Crown Hill Cemetery.She was born in Powell on May 8, 1957, daughter of Ray and Rose Mefford. She was raised in Powell and graduated from Powell High School in 1975. She later graduated from the College of Coiffure Art and also obtained her license in interior design. For the last seven years, Melanie was the first face you would see at Community Seven TV, running the front office.She enjoyed traveling, skiing, cooking and decorating, but her first priority was always her family, incuding her dogs, Daphne and Mandy. She married David Burt on May 1, 1976 in Powell, and the couple resided in Billings for the last 29 years.Survivors include her husband David of Billings; son Justin (Lydia) Burt and beloved grandson Tristan of Syracuse, Utah; son Ryan Burt (Elicia Varela) of Billings; father Ray Mefford of Powell; brother Gary (Debbie) Mefford of Powell; niece Kassidy Mefford of Manhattan Beach, Calif.; sister Linda (Ken) Jones of Blaine, Wash.; niece Kendi (Josh) Lehman, great-niece Gracelynn Lehan and niece Brandi Jones, all of Bellingham, Wash.She was preceded in death by her mother, Rose Mefford; nephew Paul Mefford; and father-in-law, James Burt.For those who can't attend services in Powell, another memorial service will be held at Smith Funeral Chapel in Billings Sunday, Aug. 7 at 2 p.m.For those who wish, contributions to the Dave and Melanie Burt Fund at First Interstate Bank, P.O. Box 31438, Billings, MT 59107-1438 and/or the American Cancer Society would be appreciated by the family. Local arrangements are under the direction of Thompson Funeral Home.
