Medical office building nearing completion

Posted

Due to construction needed to meet code changes for the new medical office building, the price to build the facility increased this week by $66,000.That is the amount of the most recent change order from Sletten Construction approved by the Powell Hospital District Board on Monday. That, combined with change orders for previously-approved modifications to the building, brings the total construction cost up from the original bid of nearly $6.7 million to $6.86 million. The board also approved a $17,679 change order from JGA Architects, Engineers, Planners. The company designed the building and is providing engineering services during construction. The board tabled discussion on a second change order for $23,550 and asked for more information to determine whether services outlined in the order qualified for an additional payment or should be included in the original bid price. The new completion date for the building is set at Aug. 28.The inside of the building is nearly complete, with the exception of carpeting, some ceramic tile and a few other last-minute details.Carpet installation was to begin on Tuesday and will take two weeks to complete, said Shawn Warner, president of Sletten Construction of Wyoming.

Meanwhile, work on the exterior of the building continues. Curb and gutters have been installed, and the parking lot is now paved and striped. Landscaping is slated to begin next week, and work on the building's stucco finish is under way, Warner said.Warner told the board a second sub-contractor now is working on the stucco. The first contractor was too busy with other projects and couldn't complete the job, he said.“It's challenging work, and there are not a lot of contractors who do stucco in the state,” Warner said.Four workers for the second contractor, H & S Enterprises of Cheyenne, were working on a north-facing nook on the west side of the building on Wednesday. Stucco on much of the front of the building, which faces Avenue H, has been completed.H & S supervisor Danny Lee said a crew of nine is scheduled to continue stucco work on the building next week.Once the building is completed, state officials must inspect it, according to Rod Barton, chief executive officer for Powell Valley Healthcare. Barton said he expects the building to be ready to be occupied about mid-September.
