Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 23 at Union Presbyterian Church for Maxine F. “Mickey” Ferren, 87, who died Dec. 15 at the Powell Valley Care Center.
Viewing will begin at 9 a.m.
She was born March 31, 1923 in South Bend, Ind., the daughter of George H. and Carrie M. Young.
She moved with her family to Nampa, Idaho in 1937 and to Powell in 1939.
She graduated from Powell High School in 1941 and married W.K. Ferren on Aug. 12, 1941. They spent their married life in Powell, except for three years living on the Nutting Ranch near Rockvale, Mont. They had two children, Patricia Ann and Tommy Lee.
Mickey is survived by her son Tom and wife Judy of Lovell; four grandchildren, Kristy (Tom) Bryan of Copan, Okla., Dustin (Linda) Hockett of Buffalo; Danielle (Aaron) Merrifield of Rathdrum, Idaho; and Nicolle (Rusty) Cruz of Lovell; 10 great-grandchildren; her sister, Norma Slater of Powell; son-in-law John Hockett of Buffalo and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, daughter Patricia and brother Paul “Curly” Young.
Mickey enjoyed crocheting, time with her family and cooking for family and church dinners. She will especially be remembered for her apple dumplings and peanut butter pies. She loved to make gifts of her baking and cooking, not only at Christmas but whenever she thought someone deserved a special treat. She was a very involved member of Union Presbyterian Church for many years. She was a longtime employee of Montana-Dakota Utilities.
Haskell Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements. Memorial donations may be made to Union Presbyterian Church or the donor’s favorite charity.
