Mary K. Voiles of Powell died Thursday, March 24. She was 97.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, March 29 at 10 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Buffalo with Father Pete Johnson as Celebrant. A vigil service and a Rosary were held on Monday, March 28. Burial will be in Willow Grove Cemetery with graveside services to follow the Mass.

Mary was born Aug. 9, 1913, in Dietz No. 8, Sheridan County, to Anna Jungers and John Wesley Steigelman. She grew up on ranches near Clearmont, Wyo., and graduated from Clearmont High School, earning a lifetime scholarship to the University of Wyoming. She attended normal school in Sheridan, and taught in a one room country school on the Powder River.

Mary married Oran K. Voiles in Gillette, and they made their home in Buffalo, where he worked for many years for Pacific Power and Light. She was a homemaker and loving mother to her nine children.

Known for her green thumb, Mary always had a beautiful garden and flower beds. She was very active in the Catholic church and the Altar and Rosary Society. In 1958 the family moved to Glenrock. Upon retiring from PP&L, they moved to Oregon.

She enjoyed her years in Oregon, where she could grow anything. After Oran’s death, Mary returned to Wyoming to live in close proximity to her family.

Mary is survived by sons Richard (Brynie) Voiles, of Folsom, Calif., Joe (Terry) Voiles of Douglas, Fred Voiles of Gillette, Philip Voiles of Sheridan; daughters Beverly (Donald) Mitchell, Germaine (David) Bragonier, both of Powell, Donna Donathan of Casper, Margaret Morgan (Roche) of Elko, Nev., 16 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren; sister Fron Panetta of Sheridan; brother John Stiegelman of Big Horn; brother in-law Bill Voiles of Casper; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Oran, and son, John.
