Marilyn P. Megorden

Marilyn Phyllis Megorden of Worland died Friday, May 4, 2012, at the Wyoming Retirement Center at Basin. She was 79.

Marilyn was born on Jan. 30, 1933 in Mahnomen, Minn., a daughter of George and Myrtle Ruth (Kleven) Ellingson. She was raised and schooled in Mahnomen.

She met and fell in love with Howard G. Megorden, and they were married on Dec. 5, 1953 in Detroit Lakes, Minn., where Howard was in the contracting business.

The couple lived there until 1964 when Howard went to work for Lutheran Hospitals and Homes Society in Crystal Falls, Mich. In 1967 they transferred to Powell, where he was the hospital administrator. 

While living in Powell, Marilyn worked at the hospital in medical records and at the nursing home in the crafts department.  The couple then lived in Red Lodge, Mont., Grand Island, Neb., and in Worland. They also lived in Billings and Laurel, Mont., for a short time before moving back to Worland.

The couple loved to spend time at their cabin at Red Lodge and had traveled several times to Florida in their motor home.

Marilyn enjoyed being a homemaker, and loved sewing, knitting, and needle work.  She loved spending time with her family, babysitting her grandchildren, singing and playing the organ.

She was preceded in death by her parents; by her husband Howard in February 2011; by her brother Russell Ellingson and her sister Ruth Larson.

Marilyn is survived by her son Craig (Rhonda) Megorden of Billings; daughters Kristi (Rod) Rutz of Billings, Lori (Randy) Nissen of Worland, Karin (Dale) Nye of Bellevue, Neb., and Brenda (Miles) Marshall of Kearney, Neb.; grandchildren Andrew and David Megorden; Adam, Andy, Libby and Amanda Rutz; Christopher and Tyler Harnden; Abby O’Hanlon and Danny Nye; and Megan, Mallory, and McKenzie Marshall; and one great-grandson.

Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held on Monday, May 14 at 10 a.m. at Veile Mortuary Chapel in Worland with Pastor Louie Pantelis officiating. The cremains will be buried in Riverview Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Worland.
