Earlier this month, congregation members at Hope Lutheran Church gathered to serve God through service projects. The work was intended to benefit people within the Powell community as well as some far reaching neighbors.
Organized by the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, “‘God’s work. Our hands.’ Sunday” was Sept. 8.
“Service activities offer an opportunity for us to explore one of our most basic convictions as Lutherans: that all of life in Jesus Christ — every act of service, in every daily calling, in every corner of life — flows freely from a living, daring confidence in God’s grace,” church leaders said in a statement.
Activities included packing snack bags to be delivered to the Montana Rescue Mission in Billings and the Boys and Girls Club in Powell. Members also wrote cards to be delivered to shut-in members of our community and our local care centers with messages of love.
“We also had a group of members who volunteered their time to assist a local family with yard work,” said Rev. Donna Putney of Hope Lutheran.
The church is also offering an afterschool Elementary Christian Education Hour to any youth in grades K-5. If you are interested in having your child attend, contact the church office at 307-754-4040 for more information.
“God welcomes the little hands and big hearts of the youth in our community to continue God’s work,” Putney said. “We at Hope Lutheran are looking forward to participating in this event again next year.”
