(May 13, 1924 - Feb. 24, 2011)
Lola Murial Kirchner Fales, 86, died Thursday, Feb. 24, 2011, in Liberty Hill, Texas, in the home of her son and his family.
She was born in St. Edward, Neb., on May 3, 1924, the daughter of Charles and Louise Krull Kirchner. She attended school in St. Edward through the fifth grade, when the family moved to Garland. Later, in 1937, they moved to Powell.
Lola met her future husband, J. Frank Fales, at the Garland school building, where a gathering of young people met together for activities. Frank and Lola were married on Nov. 15, 1941, by Reverend Weary in his home in Garland. They started their life together by farming in the Garland area where they farmed together for more than 47 years. Upon retiring, they moved to Powell to make their home. Frank and Lola celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary in November 2003, before Frank died on March 4, 2004.
Lola was a member of the Presbyterian Church, the East End Extension Club that met in the Garland school building, the Eagles Lodge, where she and Frank were charter members; and the American Legion. She also helped at the VFW, and volunteered at the Senior Center for many years. She enjoyed helping others. Lola crocheted beautiful afghans and many of her family members and friends are lucky recipients of them. She crocheted an afghan for each new grandchild to join her family. Lola also did plastic needlepoint and crafted gifts for her Lodge members and friends. It gave her so much enjoyment to give to others.
Lola was preceded in death by her husband, J. Frank Fales; her oldest child, Dorothy Jean, who died at birth; her parents, Charles and Louise Kirchner; three brothers and two of her sisters.
She is survived by her sister, Mary Ellen Tindill of Fowler, Ind.; daughter Ruth Elaine (Jerry) Cook of Lakewood, Colo.; son, Charles Frank (Myriam) Fales of Liberty Hill, Texas; eight grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.
