On Saturday, Park County Search and Rescue volunteers safely evacuated a 32-year-old Cody woman after she fell from a horse near a South Fork ranch.
Amanda Wright had been ascending a steep trail with a group of people — approximately 300 yards from the J-Bar-9 Ranch — when the accident occurred.
Wright injured her ankle in the fall, which prevented her from being brought down the steep incline and back to the ranch, the Park County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.
The initial call for help came into the sheriff’s office at 7:59 a.m. Search and rescue was immediately mobilized and deployed two ground teams to the area. They reached Wright around 10:30 a.m., stabilized her injury, packaged her and brought her to a waiting ambulance via a wheeled back country stretcher. The woman was then taken to Cody Regional Health for further treatment.
The J-Bar-9 is located about 35 miles southwest of Cody, inside the Shoshone National Forest.
