The Wyoming Army National Guard Recruiting and Retention Battalion graduated 16 soldiers from its recruit sustainment program on Sept. 6, including graduates from Powell and Rocky Mountain high schools.
Privates John Walker of Powell and Jade Minchow of Cheyenne completed basic combat training and advanced individual training, and are now ready to join their new units within the National Guard.
Walker — the son of Dan Walker and Tracy Walker — is a Powell High School graduate. He will be serving with the 2-300 Field Artillery Brigade as a multiple launch rocket system crewmember.
Walker said the opportunity to participate in military exercises and gain soldier experience inspired him to join the Guard.
Minchow is a graduate of Rocky Mountain High School and the daughter of Eric and Jennifer Minchow of Cowley.
She will be serving with the 920th Forward Support Company of the Wyoming Army National Guard.
“I joined to better myself, and to be a part of something greater than myself,” Minchow said. “Being in the Guard will also help me pay for college, so I can later give back to my community.”
