August started out as a banner month for the Heart Mountain Composite Squadron of Civil Air Patrol.
A highlight of the evening was the presentation of a milestone award to Cadet Senior Airman Fae McNair of Powell. She was awarded the Wright Brothers certificate and ribbon and advanced to staff sergeant. This means she has left the airman follower phase and is now venturing into leading and mentoring the junior cadets. Presenting her award was Maj. Andrew Krebs from the Civil Air Patrol United States Air Force liaison group. He happened to be visiting the squadron and graciously performed the ceremony along with Cadet McNair’s father, Miles McNair.
Half of the cadets enrolled in the squadron were promoted in an evening celebration the first Tuesday of the month. Four of the cadets are new to Civil Air Patrol and received their first promotion to airman.
Cadets Tobias Cedillo, Caleb Cedillo and Emily Robertson were all awarded their Curry ribbons and certificates by the squadron Commander, Lt. Col. BJ Carlson and Personnel Officer, 2nd Lt. Zack Johnston. Cadet Jonathan Cedillo also earned the award but was unable to be present at the ceremony.
These cadets have worked hard to accomplish the testing and activity level needed to promote to their current grades. They will continue to grow in their aerospace and leadership knowledge as they venture along their promotion path.
The Heart Mountain Composite Squadron meets every Tuesday night from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the Math/Science Building in Room 104 on the Northwest College campus. Each week covers a different topic from leadership, fitness, aerospace education, character development and emergency services.
Visitors are welcome to attend a meeting to check out the program for cadets ages 12-21 and senior members 18 and older. Please contact the squadron commander, Lt. Col. BJ Carlson, at heartmountain.cc@wywg.cap.gov for more information and to confirm the meeting place and time.
