(Sept. 30, 1949 - Jan. 28, 2012)
Linda Sue Hill, 62, died unexpectedly on Saturday, Jan. 28, 2012 at St. Vincent Healthcare in Billings.
Linda was born Sept. 30, 1949 to Robert “Wayne” and Norma Cronen in Casper, where she grew up and went through schooling. Linda graduated from Natrona High School in 1967.
Linda then went on to study and earn a bachelor’s degree in art and education at the University of Wyoming. Linda was a fine artist and enjoyed painting.
In 1971 Linda met the love of her life, Lawrence (Larry) Henry Hill from Cody. They fell in love after a short courtship and were married on Oct. 24, 1971. From the time they met, they only had eyes for each other. They welcomed three children, Travis, Jeremy and Stephanie and four grandchildren (McKenna, Everest, Kaleb and Orion).
Her ever-expanding family was her top priority. The immediate family spent time in Worland while Larry pursued his career in pharmacy and eventually moved to Green River, where Linda and Larry started a pharmacy and sporting goods store called Payless Drug Liquor and Sporting Goods.
Linda spent 30 years as owner/manager of the store and seeing to it that the store ran smoothly. In 2008, Linda began works on designing and creating her dream home. In 2010 Linda and Larry were able to leave Green River and move into that dream home in Cody to be closer to their three children and grandchildren.
Linda did everything she could to make sure her family knew she loved them and to see to it that they were happy. She would spend hours and hours in the kitchen whipping up the family favorite “Birthday Cake,” or Christmas time Cranberry Pudding, if the occasion was right, despite her difficulties with mobility. She was dependent on a walker for the final 20 years of her life, but did not let that keep her from full blown fun with her grandkids. She would make her walker into forts and boats, crawl around on the floor chasing the kids, do “circles” and spins in the living room, read stories upon stories, let them “make her hair pretty,” let them do angry birds for as long as they wanted to if she could just get to see them smile. Her eyes just lit up at the sight of her grandchildren. “Gamma” will never be forgotten and always be loved and missed by them.
Linda is survived by her loving husband, Larry of Cody, first son Travis (Jessica) Hill of Cody, second son Jeremy (Jaime) Hill of Cody, daughter Stephanie Hill (James Williams) of Cody, mother Norma Cronen Miller of Casper, brother Rick (Angela) Cronen of California and grandchildren McKenna, Kaleb, Everest and Orion.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 1 at Christ Episcopal Church in Cody.
Memorial donations in Linda’s name may be made to the Heart Mountain Volunteer Medical Clinic: PO Box 1155 Powell, WY 82435 or The Mayo Clinic. An online memorial and guestbook is available at www.ballardfh.com
