(Oct. 31, 1926 - July 21, 2005) Longtime Powell elementary teacher, Lila Grace Murphy, died Thursday, July 21 at Hospice Care Center in Greeley, Colo. She was 78. She was born Oct. 31, 1926, in Lucerne, Colo., daughter of Lonny C. Murphy and Edna (Owens) Murphy. She graduated from Greeley High School in 1944 and attended Colorado College of Education, now the University of Northern Colorado.She earned her education degree and taught at Evans Elementary School for five years before moving to Powell where she taught for 38 years, retiring in 1990. She was an active member of Delta Kappa Gamma.In retirement, she moved back to Greeley to be near family. Her hobbies included sewing, cooking, camping, traveling and family gatherings.She is survived by a sister and two brothers, all of Greeley; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother.Funeral services are scheduled at Allnutt Funeral Service's Macy Chapel Tuesday, July 26 at 2 p.m.
