Leonard Henry Frey, 83, of Cody, died at West Park Hospital Long Term Care Center on April 11, 2012.

The fourth child of six, Leonard was born in Pleasant Valley, Idaho, on Oct. 1, 1928 where he spent the next 18 years of his life on the family farm. He then moved with family to Blackfoot, Idaho, and eventually to Idaho Falls.

Leonard entered the Army in February 1951. He was a member of the 369th Engineer Support Unit stationed in Nevada at Yucca Flats, where he took part in the first A Bomb tests. After returning home from the service, he worked for a car dealership and then became the manager of the Don Pieper Service Station and later the manager of a Stinker Station.

In August 1971 he and his family decided to move to Cody to join family members living there. They settled at Trout Creek Ranch for two years. They later bought acreage on Bartlett Lane and made that their permanent home.

Leonard was a loyal, honest, hard working man who couldn’t say no to anyone. He was a people person with many friends and acquaintances. He was never happier than when going to town to work at his part time job at Red Eagle. After retiring from Celotex, he spent many hours being the ditch person in his local area, and several years maintaining the state park on Bartlett Lane.

In December 1973, Leonard accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior and with that his loved ones can rest assured, “Absent from the body, present with the Lord.”

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers: Ray, E.J., and Art, and one sister, Ramona. He has one remaining sister Monica (Leo) Gihring, of Filer, Idaho.

He is survived by his wife Darlene, daughters Shaunna Dawn (Brent) Richeson of Pasco, Wash; Sherrie Lynn (Burl) Ledbetter of Puckerman, Ark.; son Shayne Allan Frey of Cody, and three stepchildren: Eric Morgan Moore, Bradley David Moore, and Gwen Ellen Kuper; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at Grace Baptist Church on Monday, April 16. Burial followed at Riverside Cemetery. An online registry is available at www.ballardfh.com
