The Park County Fairgrounds will be turned into a miniature water park on Saturday, Aug. 14, as part of the fourth annual Last Splash of Summer.
From 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., local youth will be able to enjoy a number of different activities.
“We’ll have over 18,000 water balloons but on top of that, a huge bounce house and giant slide are coming back,” said organizer Doug Montgomery.
To get into this year’s event, attendees are asked to pay $1 — with proceeds going to the Lauralynn Project — and bring one school supply or can of food for Backpack Blessings. The Cody-based Lauralynn Project provides free bikes to children, while Backpack Blessings provides weekend meals for Powell school children in need.
“This is the perfect way to bring the summer to an end and support local groups helping local kids,” Montgomery said, adding, “Can you imagine? If we have the same turnout as the first couple of years, they’ll have over 400 school supplies and or cans of food! How freaking amazing would THAT be!?”
Beyond the activities, Montgomery will be manning the grill, with a goal of selling more than 300 burgers, hot dogs and Polish sausage. All proceeds will either go toward offsetting the Last Splash of Summer’s expenses — the bounce house and giant slide cost $750, for instance — or to the Lauralynn Project and Backpack Blessings.
