(March 7, 1940 - Aug. 18, 2009)Larry G. Harrell, 69, of Powell, died Tuesday, Aug. 18, after a short battle with lung cancer. He spent his last days at home surrounded by his family. Larry was born March 7, 1940, in Corydon, Ind., a son of James and Goldie (Luther) Harrell. He was the youngest of three children and graduated from Corydon Central High School in 1959. On Nov. 28, 1959, Larry married the “love of his life” Rita Briscoe, in Frenchtown, Ind., and was blessed with six children. Larry worked on a cattle ranch in Sunburst, Mont., and as a machinist in Jeffersonville, Ind. In October 1971 he moved his family from Corydon to Cody and then to Powell in 1974. He owned a carpet store in Powell and installed carpet for many years. In 1986 he started work at Linton's Big R Store and later became store manager. At the time of his recent retirement, he was the purchasing agent. He was an experienced horseman, outdoorsman and hunter. He enjoyed elk hunting with his wife and appreciated the Wyoming wildlife and majestic scenery. He enjoyed camping on the North Fork and in the Sunlight Basin, hiking and horseback riding with his famlly, and he passed his love of the outdoors on to his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed working on classic cars and was known to fix anything around the house, barn or garage. He also enjoyed history, especially World War II airplanes and Civil War battlefields.He was a Cub Scout leader and belonged to the NRA and the Arabian Horse Association.Larry was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Allen Harrell and his sister Mona Schwartz.He is survived by his wife, Rita; son Paul Harrell (Pam) of Pavillion; daughters Vicki Meyers of Las Vegas, Nev., Gail Klispie (Gary) of Worland, Diana Adams (Delos) of Preston, Idaho, Traci Swarm (Chuck) of Billings and Carla Wesley (Darrell) of Trinidad, Colo.; grandchildren Heather Wilson, Kathleen Meyers, Daniel Meyers, Amber Klispie, Amanda Jo Roseberry, Mathew Crichton, Katelyn Klispie, Gage Swarm, Haydn Swarm, Brent Wesley and Lacey Wesley; and two great-grandchildren.A celebration of Larry's life was held Monday, Aug. 24 at 10:30 a.m. St. Barbara's Church in Powell. Rosary was said on Aug. 23 at St. Barbara's. Cremation has taken place and burial will be at a later date. Honorary pallbearers will include Paul Harrell, Gary Klispie, Delos Adams, Chuck Swarm, Darrell Wesley, Daniel Meyers, Mathew Crichton, Gage Swarm, Brent Wesley and Seth Roseberry.Thompson Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
