(Feb. 5, 1909 - March 25, 2003) Katherine M. Helms, 94, died at Powell Valley Care Center on March 25. She was born on Feb. 5, 1909 in Sundance to Phillip and Bertha (Spencer) Shafer.On July 6, 1926, she and Earl C. Helms were married in Ft. Collins, Colo., She was a homemaker and loved to crochet afghans, making 100 of them for her family members. She was a member of the Catholic Church.A daughter, Karen M. Helms Acott, of Portland, Ore., brother Elroy Shafer and wife Mae of La Mesa, Calif., sister Charlotte Post of Pleasantville, Calif., and son-in-law Bill C. Asay of Huntley, Mont., 17 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren survive her.Husband Earl, daughter Katherine L. Asay, sons Tommy, Allen and Earl, and brother-in-law Dr. George Post preceded her in death.Visitation will be held on Friday at 2 p.m. until time of Christian Wake Services. Christian Wake Services will be held on Friday, April 4, 4 p.m. at St. Barbara's Catholic Church with Father Peter Johnson officiating. Mass of Christian Burial will be on April 5 at 10 a.m. at St. Barbara's, with burial to follow in Crown Hill Cemetery. Should friends desire, memorials might be made to the Powell Senior Citizens Center or the Wyoming Seminarians in care of St. Barbara's Catholic Church.Miratsky-Easton Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
