June Marie McGary Unterzuber

June Marie McGary Unterzuber died Thursday, Dec. 29, 2005, at the Powell Valley Care Center in Powell.

She was 85.

She was born June 6, 1920, in Meeteetse to Robert and Ruth (Stanley) Fenton, and attended schools in Meeteetse and Cody.

She married Wayne McGary on Oct. 19, 1936. To this union were born five children. After Wayne died in November 1965, she married William Unterzuber of Greybull in 1970.

She was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church, where she was one of the founders of St. John's Thrift Shop. She clerked at the C.R. Anthony store in Powell for many years and then at High Country Fashions in Powell. She was also the "Pepsi Sample Lady" for many years in the Powell-Cody area.

She was a member of the Powell Eagle's Lodge and the Kitchen Capers Band.

She loved her family, music and dancing. She passed on the love of harmonica and guitar playing to her grandson, Travis. She also had a poet's heart, writing many poems for family and friends. While her eyesight allowed, she spent many hours knitting and crocheting. She had a giving heart and took great joy in helping others.

She was preceded in death by husbands, Wayne McGary and Bill Unterzuber; her parents; three brothers, Robert (Buster) Fenton, John (Little Jack) Fenton and Walter James Fenton; two sisters, Ruth (Millie) Johnson and Ruby Boyles; and one half-sister, Betty Jean Alvord.

She is survived by three sons, Vernon (Joy) McGary of Pascagoula, Miss., Gary (LiLi) McGary of Powell and Kevin (Julie) McGary of Prescott, Wis.; two daughters, Judy (Doug) Loyning and Vicki (Ray) Tollman, both of Powell; three sisters, Lila Sperry of Cody, and Mary Louise Cathcart and Eva Lee Munoz, both of California.

Memorial services took place Sunday, Jan. 1 at The Commons in Powell, with Pastor Kay Allen of the Light of Christ Church officiating.
