June happenings at the library

June means summer has officially started and there is no better way to kick off summer than to participate in summer reading with Park County Libraries. The Powell Library has packed a ton of fun activities for the month of June. This year’s summer reading theme is Color Our World and it is open to all ages to participate — even adults. In addition to the calendar filled with art and crafts, we will be hosting Summer Reading performances. Join us on Monday, June 9 as we welcome Tippet Rise once again to the library. Sign up to make a faux stained-glass garden. Contact the library to sign up and for times. At 11 a.m. on Tuesday, June 17 come check out a juggling performance. We will wrap up the month with the amazing raptor performance from Buffalo Bill Center of the West at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 25.

June is the last month to check out the amazing special exhibit presented by the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum. This exhibit titled “Americans and The Holocaust” will be on display at the Cody Library until June 28. In honor of this exhibit the Cody Library will be hosting many prominent guest speakers and programs centered on this subject. Please check out our website for more information and learn times for opening of the exhibit and programs at parkcountylibrary.org.

The Powell Library is looking for rocks to incorporate into the new library. Donated rocks need to be turned in by June 16; contact the Powell Library for more information.

Join the Powell Library for a fun evening and learn how to tie a pretty bow. Kenzie Hill from Hillside Floral will help demonstrate and teach us all about bows at 6 p.m. on Thursday, June 5. 

All ages are invited to participate in Chess Club. All skill levels welcome; we will be meeting at 3 p.m. on Friday, June 6.

Need help navigating the Park County Fair entry process? Then come to the library from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, June 17 .

Grab your Altered Book Club kit after June 11 and create a book page dahlia.

Craft Time for ages 10 and up will be at 1 p.m. on Friday, June 13. Learn to paint like American artist Alma
Woodsey Thomas.

Join us for Adult Craft Night at 6 p.m. on Thursday, June 19  to make wooden firecracker décor. Adult Craft Night will be at the Powell Elks Lodge at 581 Clark St.

Join us for Crazy Art Day from 1-3 p.m. on Friday, June 20. This is for all ages to try acrylic drip painting, come spin, drip, use wind and gravity to make some cool art.

Come to the Powell Library from 1-3 p.m. on Tuesday, June 24 for Sand Paper Art.

The Powell Library is offering three different book discussions for all your literary tastes; all book discussions meet at the Homesteader Hall meeting room. Tuesday Afternoon Book Discussion will meet at 2 p.m. on June 10 where we will be discussing "English Creek" by Ivan Doig. Join us for Fiction to Film Book Discussion at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, June 10 to discuss “The Help” by Kathryn Stockett. The Tuesday evening book group will meet at 6 p.m. on June 24 to discuss “The House in the Pines” by Ana Reyes.

Powell Library is offering Tech Tuesday. Sign up for a one-on-one session with Park County Library IT who can help you with your device problems. Tech Tuesday will be on June 17, sign ups required.

Nintendo Switch Game Day will be at 1 p.m. for ages 10 and up on Friday, June 27.

Parents, we will be offering two special storytimes in addition to our regular program. Join us at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, June 4 for Story Time at the StoryWalk at Homesteader Park. Then join us at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, June 18 for Story Time at the caboose at the Homesteader Museum. Bring the kids to the Powell Library for our wonderful children’s programming. We will have Toddler Time every Thursday at 10:30 a.m. Join us every Wednesday for Story Time at 10:30 a.m. We will also be offering Sensory Playtime for Toddlers at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, June 16 for a water themed sensory playtime.

Parents remember we have Early Literacy Kits as well as tonies for checkout. Also sign up your child for 1000 Books before Kindergarten. Make sure and check out the new book at the StoryWallk at Homesteader Park. This month’s story is “Nesting,” by Henry Cole.
