Memorial services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 17 at the First Methodist Church in Powell for JoyAnn Evelyn Northy Brandt, 78, Powell, who died Thursday, Sept. 8 in Billings from complications following surgery.

She was born Nov. 23, 1926, in Red Lodge, Mont., to Matthew Thomas and Hilda Regina (Hyvonen) Northy. She attended school in Red Lodge and graduated from high school in Berkeley, Calif., in 1944.

She completed beauty school in Oakland, Calif., graduating in 1946 following her marriage to Ernest (Bud) H. Brandt on Feb. 1, 1946, in Berkeley. In 1949, they moved to Billings, Mont. Bud’s work took them to Canada. They eventually moved back to Billings and took over the family dairy farm on Hallowell Lane.

In 1960, they moved to Powell. Joy had her own beauty shop in the home Bud built on the Willwood Highway. Joy was an excellent bowler and a terrific dancer. She was active in the DOES and Eagles Auxiliary.

The love of her life was tragically taken from her in an accident on May 30, 1990. On Nov. 3, 1990, she suffered a stroke. She lived in Powell until 2000, then moved in with her dear friend, Marie Larsen, in Billings. Joy and Marie traveled many places together and enjoyed their adventures to the fullest.

Survivors include her daughter, Terri (David) Williams of American Fork, Utah; her sons, Larry Brandt of Wright and Kelly (Annie) Brandt of Powell; a sister, Regina Haggerty of Orangevale, Calif.; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, Bud Brandt, in 1990; her son, William (Billy) in 1951; her parents; her sister, Jannett Marjorie Rae Boggio; and her brothers, Thomas and Bill Northy.

It is Joy’s request that memorial contributions be made to the victims of the tornado disaster in Wright in care of Campco Credit Union, P.O. Box 360, Wright, WY 82732.

Cremation has taken place.
