James Wilbur ‘Webb’ Higgins

James Wilbur “Webb” Higgins died Aug. 17, 2011 at the Billings Clinic. He was 82.

The fifth child of homesteaders on the Willwood flat, he was born Oct. 11, 1928, in Powell to James H. and Winnie W. (Woods) Higgins.

On May 19, 1949, Webb married Mary E. Lutz in the Methodist Church in Billings.

Webb worked as manager of the Willwood Irrigation District for 38 years, from 1952-1990. He was a hardworking, honest man.

He was part of the Academy of Model Aeronautics and Wyoming Sagebrush Hoppers flying club. He enjoyed radio-control model airplane building and flying, winning numerous flying trophies. He also enjoyed fishing, and Webb loved the North Fork and hunting trips with his friend, LaVern Johnson.

He loved his bride, Mary, with all his heart and missed her for six years. He is now reunited with her and will be missed by his family and friends.

Survivors include his son, Jerry Higgins; daughters Lora (Bryant) Startin and Joy (Larry) Cummings; brother Robert (Ruth) Higgins; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mary; brothers Edward and William; and sisters Nell and Lilly.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 24 at First United Methodist Church with Pastor Susan Adams-Trembath officiating.

Burial will follow at Crown Hill Cemetery.

Thompson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
