James “Jim” Hall Renner, 82, of Berthoud, Colo., died peacefully on Sunday, Jan. 22, 2012 at the Berthoud Living Center.
He was born March 31, 1929 in Hastings, Neb. to Robert Hall Renner and Adrian “Opal” Haggard.
On Sept. 3, 1950 he married Florence “Flossie” Marie Mewhirter in Casper. They raised a daughter and a son in Powell.
Jim attended school in Grand Island, Neb. He served in the Korean conflict. He graduated college with a bachelor’s degree from Eastern College in Montana and a master’s degree from Colorado State University. He spent his career as an educator at both the high school and college level and later became the business manager at Northwest College in Powell. He was recognized as an Outstanding Educator of America in 1971 and was awarded the United States Navy Certificate of Appreciation for his electronics computer training classes.
Jim retired in 1985, and he and Flossie relocated to Nebraska to fish on Lake McConaughy. He loved to fish. He also enjoyed coaching, refereeing, and watching sports. He and his wife enjoyed camping, trips to Estes Park, Colo., and watching football and baseball.
They moved to Colorado in 1992 and settled in Loveland. Jim loved and enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He enjoyed everyone he met and always had a smile on his face and a joke to make you laugh.
Jim is survived by his wife Flossie of Loveland, Colo.; daughter Ree Jay Renner-Marx and husband Dale of Castle Rock, Colo.; son Rick Hall Renner and wife Colleen of Loveland; five grandchildren, James Steven Demichelis and Erin Nicole Lewis both of Castle Rock, Michael Hall Renner and wife Yesmina, Matthew Lane Renner and Mitchell Robert Renner of Loveland; nieces Vera Renner Davis and Sally Renner Thomsen and their families of Council Bluffs, Iowa; first cousins Ann Chladek, Paul Hallock and Joe Hallock, Grace Anne Baker, Vickie Churchill and their families.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Robert.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, Jan. 26 at 11 a.m. at Viegut Funeral Home in Loveland, Colo. A remembrance lunch will be held at Rick and Colleen’s house at 4681 Twin Peaks Court in Loveland following the services. A military burial will take place in Maxwell, Nebr. at Fort McPherson Nation Cemetery.
