All of the Powell High School Alumni Association’s planned activities for the 105th consecutive reunion will be outside this weekend. Many individual classes have chosen to wait another year for their own gatherings.
The Panther Classic golf tournament will be played with a shotgun start at 10 a.m. Friday. To bring back the tradition of dragging (or bugging) main street, PHS alumni are invited to assemble at the old PHS building site on Evarts Street and join in a 7:30 p.m. drive down Bent Street, then a tour of the town and end with a final “bug” of main street.
The Northwest College Alumni Association announced Monday that its Trapper Classic Car Show has been canceled amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. The car show was scheduled for Saturday, but was postponed to next July “due to underlying uncertainty and an abundance of caution,” said Tawnya Peterson, NWC alumni and development coordinator.
Still on tap for Saturday is an informal get-together, open to all in Washington Park, loosely hosted by the Classes of 1968 and 1970 from noon into the afternoon. It’s a BYOE (bring your own everything) with no alcohol.
The Saturday evening all-class gathering at the fairgrounds starts at 6 p.m., with a COVID-19-related limit of about 200 people at any one time. Hand sanitizer and masks will be available and temperatures will be checked.
“You can enjoy a brew here for the event,” said Gerry Wilkins of Billings, a member of the alumni association board. “If you’re not comfortable showing up, we understand and we’ll see you next year. We’re making the best of this 2020 year reunion.”
