Irma Obert Brown-Pokarney of Cody died at Spirit Mountain Hospice House on Saturday, April 21, 2012. She was 91.

Irma was born in Little Italy in Red Lodge, Mont., on Feb. 2, 1921 to Dominic and Ida Smith. She attended school in Roberts and Belfry, Mont.

She married Glen Brown of Belfry on May 24, 1938. Two children, Shirley and Kristie, were born and the family ranched and farmed in the Belfry area. The family moved to Cody in 1960, where Irma managed the Western Auto store until its closing when she then worked in the Park County Assessor’s office, from which she eventually retired.

She and Glen spent many wonderful years together until his death in 1991. Widowed, she married Bill Pokarney of Powell. They were happily married until his death in 1999. Irma was devoted to her family and friends and the great outdoors. She loved going to Crandall, being in the mountains, hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, playing cards, and traveling in her RV. She was an Order of the Eastern Star Past Worthy Matron and later in life enjoyed traveling abroad with the Global Grannies. Irma had a special gift of making friends with everyone she encountered.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands Glen Brown and Bill Pokarney, and her sisters Gracie Krum and Nora Bossert.

She is survived by her daughters Shirley (Keith) Kitchel of Belgrade, Mont., and Kristie Jenkins of Cody; step-daughters Vicki Buxton of Houston, Texas, and Janice (Neil) Bloomenrader of Casper; grandchildren Rob Graham and Jill Barclay of Belgrade, Mont., Hardin Graham and fiancé Wanda Schroder of Columbus, Mont., Tara (Phil) Saxton of Lewiston, Utah, and Jason (Eka) Farlow; great-grandchildren Lane, Logan, and Matt Graham, and her brother Mickey Obert of Belfry, Mont.

Memorial services will be held at Cody United Methodist Church at 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 24.
