Nine earn top-eight finishes in Laramie competitionMembers of Powell High School continue to shine as part of the Cody indoor track and field team this winters. Nine Powell athletes recently earned top-eight finishes at indoor track competition in Laramie. “The kids are working very hard and it is showing in their performances,” said Scott Smith, coach of the Powell High School track and field team. “They are competing very well with very little tecnique work, which we will get to in the spring. It is always fun to see kids work hard and improve.” Two Panthers captured individual titles in Laramie. Kyle Sullivan won both the 55-meter hurdles and the high jump. He also placed second as a member of a 4x400 relay team. Drew Magill placed first in the triple jump, missed first place in the long jump by one-quarter of an inch, and added a fifth-place 4x400 finish and an eighth-place 55-meter hurdle finish. Colby Gilmore joined Sullivan on the runner-up 4x400 relay roster. Gilmore also finished 10th in the 55-meter sprint. Dalton Ulmer had the other boys' top-eight finish with an eighth-place result in the long jump. Ulmer also ran in the 55 meters, failing to reach the finals. On the girls' side, Stephanie Paul turned in the day's highest finish when she teamed up with three Cody students to place third in the 4x400 relay. Paul also competed in the 55 meters. Teammates Hannah Groves and Marquette McArthur finished fifth and eighth, respectively, in the shot put. McArthur also ran in the 400 meters. Layla Bradley finished seventh in the long jump and also competed in the 200 meters. Claire Wetzel had a seventh-place finish in the 800. Also competing for Powell were Cale Anderson (long jump) and Rico Garcia (200 and long jump).
