Indoor track finishes season, heads to state

Posted

The Powell High School athletes competing with the Lovell indoor track and field team have been staying busy.

Between Lovell’s three meets in January and February, four Panthers qualified for the Wyoming Indoor State Championships in Gillette, which will take place on Saturday for boys and March 6 for girls. To qualify, athletes must place in the top eight of their respective events.

On the boys’ side Kadden Abraham (55 hurdles) and Eli Weimer (high jump) qualified, while Cassidy Miner (shot put) and Jenna Hillman (400) qualified for the girls.

At the most recent meet — on Feb. 20 in Gillette — Hillman topped the field in the 400, placing first.

In addition to the state qualifiers, coach Jason Hillman saw growth from all of his athletes in the team’s last two meets.

“Our Powell kids continue to work hard and improve,” coach Hillman said. “This is such a great experience for our student athletes, and we are thankful for the opportunity to compete with Lovell.”
