After declining for months, the number of people actively infected with COVID-19 in Park County bounced back somewhat over the past week.
As of Wednesday, there were 86 people with confirmed or probable cases in the county, up from 52 the prior week and back where levels were on Nov. 24. However, the number of people hospitalized with the disease in Powell and Cody sunk to six — the lowest figure since mid-August. On Tuesday, there were four COVID patients at Cody Regional Health and two at Powell Valley Hospital.
This week, the Wyoming Department of Health announced that the deaths of two more county residents have been tied to COVID-19. They included a man who died in October and a woman who died last month. They both were over the age of 64 and neither were known to have health conditions placing them at higher risk of severe illness.
There have now been 108 Park County residents whose deaths were caused or contributed to by COVID-19, coming among 5,563 confirmed and probable cases that have been documented in the county since March 2020.
As of Monday, a total of 12,214 county residents were fully vaccinated against the disease, representing 41.8% of the population. That was an increase of 59 people.
