Plaza Diane is celebrating the holidays with its ChristmasFest event this weekend. The fun begins at 5:30 p.m. Friday with vintage campers decked out with lights and Christmas decorations. Hot cocoa will be served, and carols will be sung.
Then on Saturday, the Fifth Grade Chorus will perform at the downtown plaza from 10 a.m. to noon. After enjoying the kids’ singing, people can head to The Commons for a Wonderland of Fun, feature holiday crafts for kids. Santa has confirmed he will visit Plaza Diane around 2 p.m.
The vintage camper tour will also continue, from 2-5 p.m.
On Saturday evening, at 5:30 p.m., the floats of the lighted parade will begin marching down Bent Street, with the event sponsored by the Powell Economic Partnership and Powell Chamber of Commerce.
The Northwest College Civic Orchestra will then help celebrate the holiday season at 7 p.m. with a community-wide concert featuring favorite holiday tunes and refreshments in the Nelson Performing Arts Auditorium. Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for seniors, with tickets available at the door. Children and students are admitted free of charge.
Under the baton of Tom Bibbey, the orchestra is scheduled to perform “A Christmas Festival” by renowned composer Leroy Anderson plus classics like Carol of the Bells, Sleigh Ride and White Christmas.
The program includes a sing-along of traditional Christmas carols, and a reception with hot chocolate and cookies will follow the performance.
