Trappers well-represented in Region IX post-season

Northwest College men’s soccer coach Rob Hill was named co-Coach of the Year in NJCAA Region IX men’s soccer while the Trappers’ Leonardo Mederios was named the region’s most valuable player. The awards were two of several earned by the Trappers this week.

For Hill, it marked the second time in as many years he was recognized by Region IX for his work at building the Trappers’ soccer program from scratch. Last season, Hill won the award outright. This year, he shares it with the coach of Laramie County Community College. Both the Trappers and the Golden Eagles were ranked nationally at various points throughout the season.

Mederios spent much of the 2011 fall season as the leading goal scorer in Region IX. His performance in both the Region IX semifinal and championship games played a large role in the Trappers’ first-ever district tournament appearance.

In addition to those two awards, the Trappers had 11 players honored on the various post-season teams announced by the Region IX.

Mederios, Dean Johnson and Brad Ramsey were all named first-team members of the Region IX post-season. Adrian Elicero, Alan Da Costa, Mattheus Santos, Shane Scrivner and Cameron Stanek were all honored with second-team status. Honorable mention honors were received by Legofi Crawford, Kory Jansma and Erik Rodriguez.

The Trappers finished the year 15-5-1.
