Dear editor:
One thing that’s for sure in this world: Many of our best legislators have been lawyers. Why? First, they read and interpret laws every day. Then, when they go to Cheyenne, they spend two months reading bills that may become laws. Second, lawyers understand the consequences of legislation. They seem to have a special “crystal ball” that lets them see how a bill will affect real people, businesses, and communities down the road. Third, lawyers are trained to think through both sides of every issue. They bring an intellectual and practical approach to problem-solving.
With that in mind, I am supporting David Hill for House District 50.
Over the past two years, I have gotten to know David quite well. He’s come up to my house to shoot, helped me navigate business deals, and I’ve gotten to know his family. He’s a good man all the way around and a true conservative.
David’s conservative credentials are not in question. He received a 100% score on the Wyoming Republican Party platform questionnaire, reflecting his commitment to the values and principles Wyoming Republicans hold dear. He is deeply involved in his church, community, and family. He currently serves as president of the Cody Chamber of Commerce, previously served five years as a Drug Court judge, worked with the United States Attorney’s Offices in Wyoming and Washington, D.C., and worked for the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit. David is pro-life, pro-business, pro-Second Amendment, pro-low taxes, and believes in limited government and local control. It doesn’t get much better than that.
Although David is a distinguished attorney with Burg Simpson, one of the most successful law firms in Wyoming, he remains grounded and committed to our community. While raising three boys, he still finds time to give back through coaching Little League baseball and youth flag football and serving organizations such as Bright Futures Mentoring, the Northwest College Foundation, Little Explorer Preschool, the Park County Leadership Institute, and the Park County Sheriff’s Office Charitable Foundation.
What impresses me most is why David is running. He wants to make sure his children — and all Wyoming children — have the opportunity to enjoy the same Wyoming we have been blessed to enjoy. He understands that government should work for the people, not the other way around.
As expected, David will bring an intellectual and thoughtful approach to lawmaking. He is also a master communicator. While some representatives seem to “disappear” once they get to Cheyenne, David has pledged to answer emails, texts and calls from constituents. He believes his job is to represent the people of House District 50, not follow marching orders from a caucus or special-interest group. That makes all the difference.
David Hill will be a solid lawmaker for House District 50. He has the experience, the conservative values, and the commitment to serve. I encourage my fellow citizens to support him.
Sincerely,
Scott Weber
